Ranges assume dock or driveway service inside our listed areas, standard marine-grade vinyl, and your existing frames. Premium vinyl adds roughly 15 to 20 percent. Rush work inside two weeks adds a published 15 percent.

How a quote actually happens

  1. You send photos or we meet the boat at its dock, slip or driveway. Photos alone are enough for a firm range on most seat and canvas work.
  2. Every cushion gets a squeeze test. Foam that is firm and dry stays and costs you nothing. Foam that weeps water or has gone flat gets its own line at $60 to $180 per cushion.
  3. You approve vinyl color and grade from physical sample books held against your gelcoat in daylight.
  4. We confirm the number against this table, in writing, before any work starts. If a teardown reveals rot or a bent frame, work pauses and you approve the change first.
  5. Pieces come off, get rebuilt at the bench, and go back on, usually inside two weeks door to door, longer at the height of summer.

Why lake boats here wear out on schedule

Smith Mountain Lake holds one of the largest boat populations in Virginia. Bedford and Franklin counties together register more than 20,000 boats with the state, per the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources, and most of them live outdoors on lifts and slips year round. Vinyl and foam on an uncovered lake boat run a fairly predictable eight to twelve year cycle in this climate. Ultraviolet exposure does most of the damage; the same UV index the EPA publishes for skin protection is what dries the plasticizers out of a seat until it cracks. Canvas runs a shorter cycle than seats because it flexes daily. None of that is a sales pitch, it is maintenance arithmetic, and it is why the winter rebuild window exists.

One boundary worth knowing: cushion foam is comfort equipment, but the flotation foam built into hulls is federally regulated safety gear under 33 CFR Part 183. We replace the first kind. If seat work exposes a problem with the second kind, you hear about it immediately and it goes to a boat shop.

Cost questions owners actually ask

Why do you publish prices when nobody else does?

Because guessing is why owners put the job off for two more summers while the foam soaks. A written range lets you decide from the couch whether the work is worth it. The phone quote then lands inside the published range or we explain exactly which line moved it.

Is redoing seats cheaper than buying replacement furniture?

Usually, and the fit is better. Catalog pontoon furniture often costs more than re-covering your set and rarely matches your rail layout. Re-covering also keeps original bases that are frequently better built than replacements.

What is the cheapest mistake to avoid?

Putting new vinyl over wet foam. It molds from underneath within a season and you pay for the vinyl twice. Foam gets squeeze-tested on every quote here, which is also why our low-end prices are real: dry foam means you skip that whole cost.

Why is the full interior range so wide?

Because an interior is not one job, it is the sum of every seat, cushion and panel aboard, and boats carry very different counts. The quote you get is that per-piece math written out line by line, so your number is narrow even though the table range is wide. For scale: a typical 20 foot runabout interior lands between $2,500 and $4,000.

Does the winter discount really exist?

Yes, about 12 percent off table prices from November through February. It is not a promotion, it is arithmetic: the calendar is empty, the boat is idle, and both sides win by using those months.

What about flotation foam under floors?

Different material with a federal job. Level flotation requirements for outboard boats are set by Coast Guard regulation, and that structural foam is not what we replace in cushions. If we find waterlogged flotation foam during seat work we tell you, because it belongs on a boat shop’s bench, not ours.
