The lake is the shop

Smith Mountain Lake boat upholstery has always meant hauling the boat to somebody’s building forty minutes away. Lakebridge Boat Upholstery works the other direction: we come to the slip, the lift or the dock, on both shores.

The lake holds 500 miles of shoreline and more than 20,000 registered boats across Bedford and Franklin counties, most of them living outdoors on lifts and slips from Hales Ford Bridge to the Penhook arms. Their seats and canvas age on lake time, and almost none of those boats sit within easy reach of a traditional shop. So the service goes to the boat.

How it works: you send photos or we meet the boat, colors get approved from sample books at the dock, and the pieces come off at the slip. Rebuilds happen at the bench and the finished pieces come back on schedule. For big pontoon sets we stage the work so half the seating stays aboard. Marina boats can run entirely through the marina office once you have approved the quote.

Coverage maps to how the lake is actually laid out. The Moneta and Hales Ford cluster, the Roanoke channel up through Hardy and Goodview, the state park side at Huddleston, and the Blackwater shore through Wirtz, Union Hall and Penhook. Each of those pages covers what boats live there and what tends to fail on them.

The winter window is the lake’s best kept scheduling secret. From November through February the published rates drop about 12 percent, dock time is easy to arrange, and every job finishes before the spring rush puts a line at the ramp. If the seats embarrassed you in August, winter is when they get fixed for less.

Dock service questions

Which marinas do you pick up from?

All of them. The regular routes hit the Hales Ford cluster (Bridgewater, Waterwheel, Webster Marine, Halesford Harbour), the Roanoke channel from Moorman’s down to Parkway Marina and the state park, Craddock Creek’s marinas, and the Blackwater side including Gills Creek, Pelican Point, Magnum Point and the Penhook marinas. Private docks anywhere between them count too.

Does the boat have to come out of the water?

No. Cushions, furniture and canvas come off at the slip. The only jobs that need a haul are ones involving the hull itself, which is not upholstery.

Do I need to be at the lake when you come?

For the first visit, ideally, so you approve colors against the boat in daylight. Pickup and reinstall afterward can run through your marina office if you are back home in Lynchburg or Roanoke during the week.

What does dock service add to the price?

Nothing inside the listed service areas. The published table already assumes we come to the boat. That is the whole point of how this service is built.
